Quick answer
What should you know first?
BrainCore neurofeedback is one of the services offered at Zimmerman Chiropractic. For sleep concerns, it is important to separate how the training works from what research can currently promise.
What neurofeedback does
Neurofeedback gives a person real-time feedback about measured brain activity while they practice changing that activity. Protocols, equipment, session counts and the people studied vary across research, which makes broad claims difficult.
What recent research found
A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis found that surface neurofeedback did not provide additional benefit over varied control conditions for self-reported sleep quality or insomnia severity. That result supports cautious expectations and an honest discussion of alternatives.
First-line insomnia care still matters
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute describes cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia as a usual first treatment option for long-term insomnia. Healthy sleep habits and evaluation of possible medical or medication-related causes may also be part of care.
Questions to ask before starting
Ask what outcome will be tracked, how often progress will be reviewed, what the expected session plan is, what the total cost may be and when the team would recommend another provider.
